Another Outreach Opportunity — Haiti

Haiti Map

As I hope you know, one of the outreach projects St. Philip’s has supported for a number of years, is the CODEP program in Haiti. It is a cooperative project sponsored jointly by the Episcopal Church and the Presbyterian Church. The primary focus of the CODEP program is on providing the indigenous population with the tools and skills necessary to use the land they live on in such a way that it sustains itself, while at the same time providing food and work for the population.

A member of St. Philip’s has made a very generous offer to match any funds raised in support of our Haiti project up to $5,000.00. Even I can do that math. If we raise $5,000.00 our benefactor will add another $5,000.00 to the project. That’s a win–win proposition not only for our outreach ministry, but for the people of Haiti, the poorest country in the Caribbean.

If you would like to support this effort simply annotate your check with the note “Haiti Fund” and we’ll let you know how we do. Thank you and God bless you.

2008 Lenten Mission Trips to Mexico

Hispanic Man

North Carolina’s three Dioceses and the Diocese of Southwestern Virginia are jointly forming teams to assist the Mexican Habitat for Humanity in building much needed homes in Central Mexico.

About 2 million families in Mexico live in substandard housing at poverty level existence. The Habitat house is a 2 bedroom structure with inside baths and 526 square feet. The families work along with volunteers to build the house and then pay back their loans to enable more homes to be built.

As a volunteer you will be building homes and changing lives as you walk in the footsteps of Christ and work and worship with others from across Mexico, Latin America and Europe.

There is a cost of $1,200 per person to cover travel and living expenses or if you can not go, help contribute toward a house sponsorship ($8,000 per home).

Please call Don Hill (253–1472) or Dick Stone (454–9888) for additional information on this most worth–while outreach program.
