Our upcoming auction is coming right along.  If you would like to help, here are two ways:

VBSDIVERYOU CAN HELP NOW WITH VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

This year we have an online registry where you can “purchase” items needed for Vacation Bible School. While this may seem early, I will place the order for all supplies during the annual VBS Showcase when all items are one sale and shipping is a flat rate of $3.95. If you go NOW to http://overboard.cokesburyvbs.com/StPhilipsChurch/wish_list/ you can agree to purchase items. Your financial help now will help ensure a fun-filled week of learning for our parish family. (We are planning on 48 young people participating this year!) ~ Millie

Shrove Tuesday is also called Pancake Day, or Mardi Gras in France — which means Grease (or Fat) Tuesday. Pancakes are eaten on this day because this feast enabled the household to use up the fat, butter and eggs it had on hand, foods that were forbidden foods during Lent.

Gathering of Former Roman Catholics

Sunday, February 26th, 4-6 PM

Several former Roman Catholics have pursued the idea of getting together to discuss our rich heritage and explore our bridge (leap?) to the Episcopal Church.  Please bring a hors d'oeuvres and beverage (wine or non alcoholic) to share.  RSVP Lyn Sutton, 933-9113, lgsutton@ec.rr.com or Anne Richmond, 454-4085, atrichmond@bsafe.us (questions welcome).

CHORAL EVENSONG

Choral Evensong

'O God, whom saints and angels delight to worship in heaven: Be ever present with your servants who seek through art and music to perfect the praises offered by your people on earth; and grant to them even now glimpses of your beauty, and make them worthy at length to behold it unveiled for evermore; through Jesus Christ our Lord.'  Amen.

My friends, that prayer is offered in thanksgiving for St. Philip's Choir, and their Director, Mrs. Debbie Skillman.  It is also offered as a way of inviting you to St. Philip's Spring Choral Evensong on Sunday, March 4th at 6:30PM.  Evensong, as you know, is simply the service of Evening Prayer put to music - though it is anything but simple.  Evening Prayer, when accompanied by music, is a particularly moving and spiritually uplifting service.

This service will be particularly special in that it will be dedicated to our Organist/Choir Master in thanksgiving for her 35 years of faithful service to God's Church in this place.  Debbie's considerable gifts have truly made worship here at St. Philip's over the years a 'delightful' and 'beautiful' experience, worthy of the praise of both saints and angels.  We are thankful for her, and we thank God for her.

Join us on Sunday, March 4th at 6:30PM for Evensong, a celebration of thanksgiving for Debbie and for God, 'for whom saints and angels delight to worship in heaven.'

A reception for Debbie will be held in St. Philip's Parish Hall following our worship.

DO YOU ENJOY KNITTING?
St. Philip's prayer shawl ministry group meets at 10:00 AM on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays in the Parish Hall.  The gathering is open to all, but if it doesn't fit your schedule or you are unable to attend, you can still participate.  You can knit or crochet shawls and drop them at the church office.  Shawls should be of washable material and approximately 17 to 22 inches wide and 50 to 70 inches long.  While making this shawl may seem like a small gesture, this special ministry repeatedly receives messages that wearing or holding their prayer shawl makes the recipient feel calm, peaceful and strengthened.  Please join in to reach out to people in times of need.  Knit one, purl one, comfort one.  For additional information please contact Evelyn King (278-3220) or Danice Paxton (253-5230).

GIFT NOOK
The Women’s Group is proud to announce the establishment of a “Gift Nook” in the Bell Tower Narthex.  We will be using the breakfront for our display.  We will be offering the Book of Common Prayer, 2 books about baptism, 2 books of prayer for young children and a teen prayer book.  We will have birthday, sympathy and Christmas cards. We will also have various note cards and bookmarkers.  Use of the Gift Nook will be on the honor system and we ask for exact change or a check.  Please make checks out to St. Philip’s Women Group.   Please take a few minutes to come by the Gift Nook.  For more information or questions please call Heather Adams 253-9392.

FOOD PANTRY DONATIONS NEEDED
The Southport Oak Island Interchurch Fellowship Food Pantry is currently in need of donations.  The food pantry accepts non-perishable food items (canned fruits and vegetables, rice, pasta, soup, etc.) and paper goods.  If you can, please help those that are in need.  Donations may be dropped off anytime at St. Philip’s office or before service on Sunday.  For more information call 269-1034.

COMMUNION AT HOME
If you cannot come to church, church can come to you. Parish members who are Eucharistic Visitors bring Sunday communion to homes and assisted living residences regularly. They would be glad to include you. Some receiving communion where they live make one-time requests; others are regulars. If you would like communion brought to you or a family member, please call the Parish Office 910-457-5643.

St. Philip’s Now Has An Established Endowment Fund
With an endowment gift, you can be a part of the future mission and ministry of St. Philip’s.  It is easy to make an endowment gift.  It can be done with a current gift or one at your death by putting a provision in your Will or Trust, or by a beneficiary designation of a portion of your retirement account or life insurance policy, or by any number of other creative ways.  For more information please contact the church office.
